Here is a basic checklist for migrating your existing WordPress site to Shifter.
If you’re looking for a company to handle the migration, please visit the Shifter Partner Network. Update All Plugins and Themes
Before migrating your site to Shifter, please update your plugins and themes to their latest versions.
Before migrating your site to Shifter, update your plugins and themes to the latest versions. Outdated plugins or themes can cause artifact generation to fail, or cause posts and pages in the artifact to be missing or corrupted. Shifter automatically keeps your WordPress installation up to date, but plugins and themes must be updated manually.
Remove cache-related plugins
Caching plugins are not required on Shifter. If any remain, they may conflict with the process of generating static versions of each page, so please remove them beforehand.
Common WordPress caching plugins include the following:
- Zencache
- SNS Count Cache
- WP Super Cache
- Simple Cache
- WP Fastest Cache
- W3 Total Cache
- Comet Cache
- WP Rocket
Remove Unused Themes and Plugins
Unused plugins and themes may cause timeouts during the migration process, so please check for them and remove them beforehand if found.
Check PHP Compatibility for Plugins and Themes
Shifter runs on the latest version of PHP recommended by WordPress. If your plugins are outdated, please update them before migration.
Shifter provides an environment equivalent to WordPress on Shifter as Shifter Local. Before actually migrating to Shifter, please use Shifter Local to confirm that the migration can be completed safely.
If there are many unnecessary files within your WordPress installation, the site may break after import. Therefore, we recommend importing only the database and media using the All-in-One WP Migration and Backup plugin, and then manually adding the necessary themes, plugins, and other items.
While troubleshooting and guidance during the migration are not covered by our support, if you encounter any issues with your site that make migration difficult, we also offer paid migration assistance. Please feel free to contact us for more information.
