Shifter is a static site generator SaaS. As a result, some WordPress plugins (e.g., contact forms, e-commerce, site search) will not work. When generating static files, Shifter automatically disables unsupported plugins. Below is a list of unsupported plugins and their alternatives. For more details, please read our blog post on this topic.
List of Unsupported Plugins and Default Features
- Comments
You’ll need to switch from WordPress comments to one of the following external services:
- Disqus – The #1 way to build an audience on your website, or the Disqus WordPress plugin.
- Comments – Social plugins, or the Facebook Comments WordPress plugin.
Here is documentation to help you integrate your site with Disqus.
- Forums and Message Boards
BBpress must be replaced with something like Zendesk; documentation (with images) is available here.
- Membership Sites
BuddyPress and other membership plugins that run dynamically with PHP do not work on Shifter.
- E-commerce
WooCommerce、Easy Digital
Commerce plugins that run dynamically with PHP, such as Easy Digital Downloads, do not work. Shopify works without issues because it processes data outside the static site. - Contact Forms
Please use the WP Serverless
Forms plugin, which integrates with Contact Form 7! Please refer to the following documentation for setup instructions with Basin.Using the WP Serverless Forms WordPress plugin with Basin
- Search
We recommend using Algolia (documentation here) or Google Custom Search (documentation here).
- REST API
You love the REST
API (and so do we!), but it is not a good fit for Shifter. The REST
API works when you are logged in to the admin dashboard, but not when end users are accessing the static site. Unfortunately, there is no alternative for this. - Maintenance Mode, Under Construction Mode, or Coming Soon
Shifter does not support these types of plugins, and there are no alternatives.
