Debug mode is a useful tool for troubleshooting and developing WordPress sites. Because it is so useful, it is enabled by default in Shifter Local, and we recommend using it for debugging. As described in the official WordPress documentation, enabling debug mode in WordPress normally requires editing wp-config.php. However, if you want to use debug mode in the actual Shifter environment, you need to start WordPress as the emergency user.
How to Enable Debug Mode
- Go to the Settings page.
- Scroll down to the Emergency Actions section.
- Click the [Launch as Emergency User] button.
- Log in to the WordPress dashboard using the displayed username and password.
That’s it!
How to Verify
By installing a debugging plugin such as the Debug Status display plugin, you can verify that WP_DEBUG is enabled.
Note
Shifter’s WordPress environment is temporary. This mode affects only the current WordPress session. Once WordPress stops running, debug mode will be turned off.
