Here are some tips for resolving issues with the generator.
1. Update all plugins and themes
While Shifter automatically updates WordPress itself to the latest version, you must update plugins and themes manually. Outdated plugins and themes can cause build failures or result in missing or corrupted posts and pages within your output. After logging into WordPress, be sure to update your plugins and themes to the latest versions.
2. Disable or Remove WordPress Caching Plugins
Are you using any WordPress caching plugins?Caching plugins can be useful on traditional hosting platforms, but they are not necessary here. Shifter requests each page of your site to generate a static version, and caching plugins may interfere with this process. When using Shifter, please disable or remove the following common WordPress caching plugins:
- Zencache
- SNS Count Cache
- WP Super Cache
- Simple Cache
- WP Fastest Cache
- W3 Total Cache
- Comet Cache
- WP Rocket
3. Remove Unused Themes and Plugins
During the generation process, Shifter indexes, archives, and copies all files within your WordPress installation directory. This includes themes and plugins that are installed but not activated. These plugins and themes may cause timeouts during the generation process. Please check to see if there are any plugins or themes that can be completely removed.
