What Is a Sitemap?

A sitemap is a file that provides information about the pages, videos, and other files on a website, as well as the relationships between them. Search engines like Google read this file to crawl the site more efficiently. A sitemap informs Google about important pages and files on your site and provides valuable information about them. For example, the date and time a page was last updated, or alternative language versions of a page.

Path to the XML Sitemap:

WordPress Default:

  • Starting with version 5.5, WordPress began providing its own XML sitemap.

  • XML Sitemap URLs:

    • https://YOUR-DOMAIN.COM/wp-sitemap.xml

Yoast SEO Plugin:

  • Accessing the XML Sitemap:

    1. Go to Yoast SEO → General
    2. Click the [Features] tab
    3. Click the “View XML Sitemap” link to access the file.
