What Is a URL with a Trailing Slash?
A URL with a trailing slash refers to the “ /” at the end of a web address, such as example.com/page/. This is commonly known as a forward slash.
Shifter’s Support
Shifter now offers broad support for URLs, regardless of whether they include a forward slash.
Background
Previously, a forward slash was required to match static pages on the Shifter site. In traditional hosting environments, the ability to map web addresses to their final destinations regardless of the presence of a forward slash was not particularly critical. If you’re using Apache or NGINX, you can rewrite these URIs to the intended addresses.
Challenges in Serverless Environments
However, when using static files in a serverless hosting environment, you must rely on alternatives such as Lambda, DNS, CloudFront, and API Gateway.
Shifter’s Solution
We have now implemented this redirection functionality using Lambda@Edge and CloudFront.
How to Get Started
To take advantage of this update, simply generate and deploy a new artifact. As with all Shifter platform updates, we are implementing a rolling update to ensure customers can seamlessly access the latest changes.
Notes on caching
Since this feature relies on CloudFront, caching may occur.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter any issues, please try one of the following solutions:
- Clear your browser cache
- Wait for CloudFront to invalidate the cache for the latest artifact deployment
