Shifter Is Now Running WordPress 6.2 With Exciting New Features

We’re excited to announce that all Shifter Static and Headless sites are now running on WordPress version 6.2! This update brings with it a host of new features that improve the site editing experience.

One of the most significant improvements in WordPress 6.2 is the updated Site Editor, which provides users with more control over their site editing experience. With a refreshed interface, users can now explore full previews of their templates and template parts, and then jump in and get to editing their site from wherever they choose.

Managing complex menus is now even easier with the Navigation block’s new sidebar experience. Users can add, remove, and reorder menu items faster than ever before.

The Block Inserter has also received a refreshed design that gives users more visibility and easier access to content. Use the Media tab to drag and drop content from the existing Media Library quickly. Plus, a split view makes it easier to navigate categories and see previews all at once.

The block settings sidebar is now organized into tabs for Settings and Styles, making it easy for users to find the tools they need. There’s also a new collection of header and footer patterns that users can pair with any block theme as a quick, high-quality starting point for their site’s templates.

In addition to these features, WordPress 6.2 also includes Openverse media integrated into the Editor for easy access to a library of free, openly licensed stock images and audio. Distraction-Free mode has been added for a writing-focused experience, while the Style Book provides a complete overview of how every block in the site library looks. Users can now copy and paste styles from one block to another for consistent design, and custom CSS has been added for more control over site appearance.

Sticky positioning is also now available to keep top-level group blocks fixed to the top of a page as visitors scroll. Users can also import their favorite widgets from Classic themes to Block themes, and default WordPress themes now include Google Fonts for better privacy with local fonts in themes.

We’re thrilled to offer our users these new features and improvements, and we hope they make creating and managing websites on Shifter even more enjoyable. As always, if you have any questions or feedback, don’t hesitate to reach out to our support team.
