Introducing the Shifter Media CDN, a new feature for static WordPress sites, now available in public beta.
The Shifter Media CDN extending the existing WordPress media library functionality by offloading static assets such as images from your WordPress site to object storage. This dramatically reduces the size of your WordPress site allowing Shifter to generate static sites faster and with excellent reliability. When in use, all media files are delivered from a unique URL to site visitors similar to this pattern.
Not only does this the Media CDN improve the static site generators time it improves the speed of backups. We introduced automated backups for WordPress a few weeks back for all users using our new Tier plans.
But wait, there’s more! We’ve tightly integrated the Shifter Media CDN with WordPress itself. Its availability is seamless and requires no setup time. By offloading media assets it improves the performance of the WordPress admin making it easier to navigate and edit pages with ease. Using the Media CDN with large files will reduce the WordPress start time and improving the experience for all editors and site admins.
This is just one small step on our road map for 2020 as we aim to develop the next generation of WordPress hosting. We welcome your feedback and suggestions during this trail release. This feature is available on all Tier plans.
